Online Course: Public Speaking for Engineers, Researchers, and Scientific Professionals

This course is aimed at engineers, researchers, or technicians in management or entrepreneurial roles who want to develop their communication skills to capture attention, establish an emotional connection, and tell an engaging story. It offers a handful of strong ideas to craft a clear, powerful, and lasting message, essential for advancing your projects and achieving your long-term professional goals.
Comprising two hours and forty minutes of content spread across 15 thematic videos, the course provides a detailed outline for each module along with references for further exploration of key ideas.
The first part (lessons 2 to 7) addresses the limiting beliefs that often hinder progress: excessive focus on technique, poor stress management, lack of letting go, and truth bias. The second part introduces key concepts that promote real long-term development: message persistence, methods for generating interest, storytelling, metatalking, management of preparation and materials, etc.

About the Trainer
Nicolas Boulenger
Engineer · Director · Media Trainer
An École des Ponts engineer with a master's degree in Production Organization, I trained in acting at Le Magasin, screenwriting at La Maison du Film, and production at INA. I direct fiction (TF1, France 2, Canal+), promotional films (UNESCO, Publicis), and co-founded the agency ChezFilms in 2018.
My unique approach as a coach stems from my atypical background: as an engineer trained in acting and screenwriting who became a director, I have a deep understanding of technical topics combined with over 20 years of experience on both sides of the camera. In 2019, I began coaching executives for their television appearances. In 2025, I formalized this activity within ChezFilms by launching the online course "Public Speaking for Engineers, Researchers, and Scientific Professionals" and expanding personalized coaching services.

✅ Don't Get Trapped by Style
Standing straight, speaking clearly, avoiding verbal tics, not fidgeting with your hands... These matter far less than you might think. Over-focusing on delivery is the main cause of stage fright or camera shyness. The goal is not to emulate a perfectly polished speaker (you're not aiming to become a weather presenter, are you?) but to develop a speaking style that feels natural to you, unlocking spontaneity and making each performance easier. Progress comes naturally when you work in this direction.

Promoting a clear message consistently over time is the only way to advance the projects that matter to you. Of course, your next public speaking event is important. But it's the consistency of your message—before and after that event, in professional follow-ups and informal conversations—that will determine its impact and drive your audience to action. This is why we work on crafting a clear, simple message that feels perfectly aligned with you and effortless to deliver.

True, verified, and verifiable arguments alone are not enough to win over an audience, a jury, or a decision-maker. Convincing others requires creating an emotional connection. This idea often feels daunting, especially for scientific professionals who fear that it means abandoning the truth in favor of marketing or cheap sales tactics. Not at all: this connection is built through storytelling, by highlighting aspects of your journey that your audience can relate to.
